this is almost exactly what i was looking for in a mpd client. it would be sweet if you had tag editing, even as a plugin.

Yes! Ario is very nice! But also you can try Sonata and GMPC.

I try to use ario on debian. But I can't get it to work.

There is nearly no documentation nor mailing list or a support page.
